Press Release: Over 15 Million Reached as #StaySafeSudan COVID-19 Awareness Campaign Wraps Up in Sudan
Khartoum, The Private Office: Ms. Eman Salama, Media Officer of the "Stay Safe" campaign and official spokesperson of the Private Office, announced the conclusion of the national community awareness campaign on the novel coronavirus, "#StaySafeSudan", in Sudan. The campaign, which was launched on June 13 and continued until July 10, was spearheaded by a group of inspiring community initiatives and influencers across all social media platforms. It aimed to raise public awareness on preventive measures against COVID-19, support local efforts to curb the virus, and activate the role of youth, community leaders, families, and all societal sectors to unite in confronting the pandemic.
“Thanks to God and the tireless efforts of our young leaders and campaign partners, we were able to deliver awareness content to approximately 15,748,329 people, achieving a total reach of 38,901,738 during the campaign period,” said Ms. Eman Salama, spokesperson of the #StaySafeSudan, commenting on the results and outcomes of the campaign.
She added, “I extend my sincere gratitude to our strategic partners, the campaign team, and all supporters whose contributions made this campaign a powerful force in spreading awareness and reducing the number of infections. This is a tangible achievement by young leaders and a dedicated effort that lays the groundwork for sustained public health awareness in a well-informed and safe society. Special thanks go to Sudanese Tweeters Union, Wakeb Platform, Sudanese Trend, Ask Sudanese, Sudanese Culture, and Taharqa, in addition to the inspiring and influential social media figures in Sudan who actively participated in the campaign.”
The #StaySafeSudan campaign aimed to educate communities on how COVID-19 spreads, the dangers of infection, proper health precautions, how to respond to a confirmed case, and the importance of physical distancing in crowded areas. It also emphasized compliance with daily curfews and leaving home only for essential needs—all conveyed in simple language, along with directions for accessing reliable information from official sources like the World Health Organization.
Over a 30-day period, the campaign operated intensively through social media platforms to distribute preventive information, including a wide array of awareness bulletins and communication messages encouraging personal responsibility, adherence to government guidelines, and increased community-level awareness. Interactive media such as videos and live broadcasts were also used to engage with the public.
The campaign was accompanied by tremendous efforts and dedicated work from all participating youth volunteers to maximize the reach of awareness content across various platforms. Through this statement, we call on all citizens and residents to continue practicing preventive health measures and applying the safety procedures promoted throughout the campaign—and to encourage all segments of society to do the same.
